BAM (bike across Minnesota)
Last week we were off to the BAM bike tour. It is limited to 275 riders. We had them from all over the US and Canada. It is a very popular tour so when registration opened back in January we were all sitting on the computer. It filled in 3 hours. Not a long ride - 4 days and about 260 miles. Nice part was it was in MN so had only a 3 hour drive home instead of 1 or 2 days. Our friends from Brainerd area did the ride with us. There's is the light blue tent in the middle and ours is the light colored one behind them by the fence. Yes it looks like tent city. The tour provided all meals and they were great. They had also set up lots of things to see along the route. Things like a zoo, thrashing show, days of yesteryear, bused us to a waterski show after we ate one evening, county fair, and yes the largest ball of twine in the world. Guy started it in 1950. They moved it to a protected enclosure now - weighs 3 ton and is 44 feet around. Wonder what would possess someone to roll that big a ball. Weather was almost perfect (a strong headwind one day). Unfortunately we had one injury on the ride. A young lady blew a stop sign in the country and hit a rider. Air lifted him to hospital. He had concussion, 7 broken ribs and short term memory loss. If it would have been split second later would have caught several bikers. Can't help but think she was on the phone or texting.
