Grandpa built a good house
My grandparents (Mayer) built a Winter home in Apache Junction, Az. Not sure but it was in the late 40's or early 50's. My grandfather knew how to lay up stone so that is how he built it. One of a kind in Arizona. He told me that Apache Junction was just a dot on the map and Mesa was a T in the road when they first started coming down. Now Mesa is the 3rd largest city and AJ has 37,000 people. I found his house the other day. Because it was made of stone it still stands after 60 some years. Some changes however. The roof is no longer flat, but you can still see the chimney in the back of the roof. The garage has now been enclosed to make another room and a porch roof has been added on the front of that. The stone pylons that grandpa made to mark the edge of the property were still there. Guess I like the original version better, but neat to see it still there.

The stone work reminds me of the farm, also had simular windows.
you probably don't wear a three piece suit when you are hanging out. Any idea who the little boy is in the original picture? If someone can id the year of the car, we would at least know the house was built before that.

I estimated the picture at 1956. Went back and looked and I didn't have any notes on why I picked that date. Would assume it was because of how old my grandparents looked in comparison w/ other pictures of them that I did have definate dates on. Don't know who the boy was but the dog probably belonged to his family.
