A good day to plant a tree

On Arbor day the first graders went on a field trip to plant trees. That was followed by a Arbor day celebration in a downtown park. Trucked them out into the country to a woodland park. Then they had to walk at least 1/2 mile on a trail to a tree planting area. That was followed by having them plant 80 trees. Of course they had to walk 1/2 mile back to the buses. Some might think that was to much for little first graders - they loved it. After that we bused them to a park downtown for a celebration. What the teacher, (Diane), did not tell the adults until we were there was that there would be 100's of kids in the park, 4 kids would be assigned to each of us, had to keep them in tow for over 1 hour, and above all do not lose any children. The children had a great time, the adults had an elevated stress level. However, Diane really knows how to run things so it turned out to be a great day.

Friday we head off for our first tour ride of the year. This one will probably be a little tough on the bod as we have not gotten in as much prep time this Spring as would have liked. Weather has been awful. So may the winds always be at our back.

Four 1st graders all going in a different direction at the same time? Yikes! That must have been a looonnnnggg hour! A harness or lasso would have come in handy. Please take a picture of those "sticks with roots" next year so we can see what they look like!!
