Apache Tears
Our friends from Missouri joined us to hunt for Apache Tears at an old mine site. Actually we used there big truck to get there as the dirt road was a bit much for my van. We had a great day digging. Between the four of us we found hundreds. Many were pea size up to marble size. I did find this one big one. They are found in perlite material which is volcanic glass. It just breaks away and if lucky you find these little gems. They are black in color. When you hold them up to light it passes through them for a smoky appearance. Will have to find a tumbler to get the smooth inky black gem appearance.

That sounds like a fun thing to do although I personally wouldn't handle the 'pee' sized ones.
Russ and I had a tumbler when we were kids. I think it was a process of using finer grits to get something nice - kind of like sanding a board smooth I guess.
