Our 5th CANDISC
We just completed the 7 day CANDISC tour this year and are in one piece. Everyone said it was a tough trip this year. Think that was because we had a lot of hills (19,000 climbing feet) and it seemed like the wind was always on our nose. Good thing they shortened it to a little over 400 miles this year. No one got seriously hurt and think most had fun; so a good year. Not sure where we will go in the future as a lot of areas of North Dakota are to dangerous to go in because of all the oil trucks. Had folks from 25 states and most of the Canadian provinces. No one from Europe this year. Youngest was 12 and oldest was 77.
CANDISC hauls all your gear, has porta potties set up along the way, have sag service on the road along with a bike mechanic. We usually stay at schools or parks. The town provides showers at the school or park. CANDISC also has its own shower trailer. Meals are catered by the host town usually at a gym or hall. Towns also put on entertainment for us in the afternoon and evening. We usually are riding by 6:30 AM. Distance are different each day with the longest being 82 miles. Roads are marked and we get a booklet at orientation describing each day in terms of distance, route, rest stops, activities, and food menu.
In following blogs will give a little overview of the trip. 2nd pic. is our new tent. It worked out well. Not used to all the space. Most of our other tents are little ones for backpacking. We had two doors and I could actually stand up in it. Foot print was 8 x 10. We even used a blowup mattress this year. Lot of luxury for us.
