Medieval engine for hurling missiles

The machine is called a trebuchet. Our neighbor boy is in an honors physics class. The current project was to build a trebuchet. It had to hurl a 4 pound pumpkin at least 30 meters with a max 40 pound weight allowed to power it. More distance and his grade goes up as a percentage, less distance and his grade goes down.
The machine actually throw it a max of 48 meters, second best, and best overall when averaging all the throws. It was fun watching the build, test, and modify cycles.

Congratulations to your neighbor. Sounds like a fun project. Looks like fall color has arrived at your area also!
