This past weekend we drove to Wisconsin "very early" and rode our last tour ride for the season. It is called the Apple Affair. It was 39 degrees starting out so had our arm and leg warmers plus long fingered bike gloves and wind jackets. By 10 AM it started to warm up, so turned out to be a great day. The rest stops are at apple orchards. A lot of activities going on for visitors. The claim to fame for this towns celebration is a giant apple pie. They were just getting it ready when we left early. By noon they were ready to serve. If you blow up the first pic you can see the ingredients. Pie is 10ft by 10 ft. They have a custom built oven to bake it. Two people hold a string above the pie and someone with a long handled cutter slices it up into 1500 pieces. We had ours with ice cream.
After that, Sheila and I went to the trempealeau hotel in trempealeau Wi. to get our walnut burger fix. They are famous for them. No meat, just walnuts and soy. Looks like meat but so much better. After that we drove up the Mississippi River on the Wi. side. Sheila had never been to a city park in Alma Wi. that sits on a high bluff overlooking many miles of the river valley.
A great day.
